Pearson Edexcel iPrimary Mathematics provides a progressive framework for international primary students, building number sense and fluency through the "concrete → pictorial → abstract" (CPA) approach.
Students develop understanding of place value from ones through to millions, using base-ten equipment and place value charts. The four operations are taught with multiple strategies: number lines, partitioning, column methods, and mental calculation. Emphasis on estimation to check reasonableness of answers.
Fractions: recognising, naming, comparing, ordering, and operating with fractions. Visual models: fraction bars, circles, and number lines. Decimals introduced through money and measurement contexts. Equivalence between fractions, decimals, and percentages (e.g. 3/4 = 0.75 = 75%).
Edexcel iPrimary emphasises applying number skills in context: multi-step word problems, money problems, and real-world investigations. Students learn to identify the operation needed, estimate, calculate, and verify their answer.
Edexcel iPrimary is Pearson's international primary curriculum for students aged 5–11. It covers English, Mathematics, and Science and is designed for international schools outside the UK. Unlike the UK National Curriculum, iPrimary is specifically adapted for international contexts while maintaining the rigour of English educational standards. It provides a natural pathway into iLowerSecondary and then International GCSE.
