Statistics and probability in iLowerSecondary develop data literacy: the ability to collect, analyse, and interpret data, and to understand and calculate probabilities — skills essential for IGCSE and beyond.
Mean, median, mode from raw data and grouped frequency tables. Estimated mean for grouped data. Range and interquartile range. Representing data: bar charts, pie charts, stem-and-leaf diagrams, scatter graphs with lines of best fit, frequency polygons.
Probability scale 0 to 1. Calculating probability of single events. Expected frequency = probability × number of trials. Listing outcomes systematically. Mutually exclusive events. Introduction to independent events and tree diagrams.
Edexcel iLowerSecondary offers Progress Tests (end of each year) and an Achievement Test (end of Year 9). These are optional external assessments that provide standardised feedback. They are not final qualifications — that role belongs to International GCSE. Teachers also use ongoing classroom assessment aligned with the iLowerSecondary curriculum.
