Being safe online is just as important as being safe in the real world. This topic covers creating strong passwords, protecting personal information, handling cyberbullying, understanding digital footprints, and being a responsible digital citizen.
Passwords: use 8+ characters with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols. Never share passwords. Don't use obvious passwords (birthday, "123456"). Personal information: never share full name, address, school, phone number with strangers online. Phishing: fake emails/websites that look real to steal your information — check URLs carefully.
Digital footprint: everything you post, like, or share online creates a permanent record. Think before you post! Cyberbullying: using technology to bully others — tell a parent/teacher immediately. Netiquette: be respectful, don't type in ALL CAPS (yelling), give credit for others' work. Screen time: balance with outdoor activities, follow the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 min, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds).
Do not respond to the bully. Take a screenshot as evidence. Block the person. Tell a trusted adult (parent, teacher, school counsellor) immediately. Report the behaviour on the platform (Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. all have report features). Remember: cyberbullying says nothing about you and everything about the bully. You are not alone.
