Measurement and data handling connect mathematics to the real world. Students learn to estimate, measure, and convert between standard units, and to collect, organise, represent, and interpret data.
Length: mm, cm, m, km. Mass: g, kg. Capacity: ml, l. Students estimate, measure with instruments, and convert between units. Time: reading clocks, 12/24-hour, calculating durations. Perimeter (sum of sides) and area (counting squares, then formulae) from Stage 4.
Students collect data through surveys, experiments, and observations. Representation: tally charts, frequency tables, pictograms, bar charts, line graphs, pie charts (Stage 6). Interpreting data: reading values, comparing categories, drawing conclusions. Mode, median, and mean introduced progressively.
Cambridge Primary uses metric (SI) units as the standard: centimetres, metres, kilograms, litres, etc. This is consistent across all Cambridge international programmes. Imperial units may be mentioned for context in some regions but are not a focus of the curriculum.
